The survey agency estimated in the report that ChatGPT needs 20000 graphics cards to process training data. As OpenAI continues to deploy ChatGPT and its generative GPT model commercially, it may need more than 30000 graphics cards.
At present, the price of NVIDIA A100 graphics card is between US $10000 and US $15000, which depends on how many graphics cards OpenAI needs and whether NVIDIA will provide order discounts for AI companies. TrendForce predicts that Nvidia can earn more than 300 million dollars (about 2.082 billion yuan).
NVIDIA also sells A100 as a part of the DGX A100 system, which has eight accelerators and sells for up to $199000. Given the scale of OpenAI's operations, the company may purchase A100 graphics cards separately and stack them into clusters.
